The Pine Prairie Panthers are still looking for that first win of the season. The Panthers are 0-4, but have managed to get better week in and week out. They gave the Mamou Demons all they had last week, before falling late in the contest. Look for the Panthers to go into Welsh tomorrow night with a lot of determination and a lot of desire to win.

The Greyhounds of Welsh are 1-3 on the year with a tough and rigorous schedule thus far. Their only win came against Vinton by a score of 51-12. Besides that, the Greyhounds have losses to Rayne (42-20), Loreauville (49-7) and most recently to Iota (7-6).

Pine Prairie put up 14 points last week and moved the ball well. The Panthers put up nearly 175 overall yards against Mamou. Chris Bradley threw for 126 yards and was 17 of 30 in the air. Welsh is normally weak against the passing game, so that could play out in Bradley and company’s favor. Bradley hit Gijuan Anderson five times last week for 36 yards. He also connected with Garrett Guillory and Jarred Bradley four times each. If the Pine Prairie High School quarterback can continue to spread the ball around that could give the Greyhounds fits tomorrow night. Pine Prairie’s ability to spread the ball around and line up in the spread could cause Welsh to abandon its run defense and try to stop the passing game.

Welsh has given up an average of 27 points a game, including two games with 40 points or more. That means the Panthers have a strong chance to put up points, however, they must stop the Greyhounds from scoring as well. The Greyhounds traditionally run a wing-T offense. They like to run the ball heavily behind their tackles, which are usually quite large. Don’t expect this game to be any different.

The Panthers will be fighting for their first victory over the year and a league win. Unfortunately, it will be on hostile ground against a very hostile enemy. Kickoff time is set for 7 p.m. in Welsh.
