The Sacred Heart Lady Trojans continued to wrap up their district title with a 16-3 victory over the Ville Platte Lady Bulldogs on Monday, April 12. They improved to a 23-6 overall record and an 8-1 district record. The SHHS girls faced Loreauville to end their regular season yesterday. The Class 2A playoff brackets will be released on Friday. Sacred Heart will host a first round playoff game and could possibly host a second playoff contest. The Lady Trojans scored three runs in their trip to the plate. With two outs, Logan Hebert doubled to get a rally going. Kelsey Jagneaux walked behind her and that brought Kelsie Enicke to the plate. The catcher hammered a triple that pushed both runners home. Laura Coreil’s singled brought home Enicke, giving the SHHS girls the lead.
Sacred Heart plated two more runs in the top of the second block. Back to back doubles from Samantha Davenport and Hebert and a sacrifice fly from Enicke pushed the Lady Trojans up 5-0.
The Lady Bulldogs cut in to the SHHS lead in the bottom of second inning. Courtney Anderson started things off with a triple. Christin Leday and Kim Frank walked to keep the inning going. A single from pitcher Brittany Aymond pushed one run home. With the bases loaded, a walk to Paige Poullard brought another run home. Aymond later scored on a walk to Montrell Thomas.
Ville Platte High would not score again. The Lady Trojans rattled off 11 straight runs from that point and went on to a victory. The offense was led by Hebert who had an amazing day. She went 5-5 with a pair of doubles and three singles. She also drove in three runs. Regan Fontenotwas 3-4 at the plate. Lydnsey Shexnayder, Samantha Davenport and Laura Coreil each finished the day with a 4-2 performance at the plate. Davenport hit a double and triple in the game and drove home six runs. Schexnayder’s highlight was a solo home run in the top of the fifth frame.
Hebert worked her magic in the circle as well. She went the distance, fanning seven batters in the process. She scattered only three hits.
