The Ville Platte Bulldogs are riding high and sitting at 4-0. They have been hitting opponent after opponent with speed and sheer determination. This has allowed them to score over 30 points or more in every game thus far. They put up an amazing 55 points last week against North Central. This week, the East Beauregard Trojans come to town for Ville Platte’s homecoming. The Trojans are 1-3 on the year with their only win being a 27-25 victory over the Merryville Panthers.

Ville Platte’s 55-6 victory over North Central last week featured the Dogs piling up nearly 400 yards of total offense. Cody Jones threw for 100 yards for the fourth game in a row. Together, the VPHS offense found a way to dominate the game. Senior Vanshanski Nelson is amongst the top receivers in the area. He caught five passes for nearly 60 yards.

The Bulldogs should not have much problem scoring tomorrow night when they face the Trojans for homecoming. East Beauregard has had problems stopping the run. They have surrendered 25 points or more per game. In three of the four games, the Trojans have given up 40 points or more. Basile ran 145 yards on the ground last week. They also torched the Trojans in the air for nearly 300 yards. With a weak defensive secondary, Ville Platte’s Cody Jones should have no problem finding receivers downfield.

The Trojans’ offense did not put up much of a fight in last week’s contest against Basile. In fact, they scored just one touchdown late in the game. Quarterback Justin Rutherford ran for 13 yards and threw for 69 yards on five completions. Rutherford’s most common target seems to be wide receiver Aaron Armstrong. The duo connected five times last week. Running back Seth Shirley got most of the carries in last week’s contest. He carried the ball 18 times, racking up just 61 yards.

Ville Platte’s defense did very well. They held North Central to just 157 yards of total offense. The Bulldogs held superstar Jamal Doucet to just 80 yards on the ground and 99 yards in the air. The Trojans’ offensive performances have been less than stellar this year. This should play right into Ville Platte’s hands tomorrow night. The Bulldogs have been strong on defense the last couple of weeks. They limited North Central to just one score and held Mamou scoreless. Now it will be another test for the Bulldogs.

It’s homecoming tomorrow night and it will be tough for the Trojans to stop the Bulldogs. The VP boys should not underestimate East Beauregard, as they are capable of stealing the game from the Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Dog House.
